About Our Name

We get a lot of questions about our name -- often questions such as "What kind of editors are you if you can't even spell 'write'?"

Our name isn't misspelled, and it isn't a mistake. We use the word wright in our name for several reasons. Of course it's a play on write (what we do) as well as on right (how we try to do it), but those aren't the meanings we intended.

The word wright has its roots in the Old English word weorc (work). A wright is a skilled worker who is engaged in a creative or manufacturing business. It is now chiefly used in compounds, such as in boatwright or playwright. We at DocuWright like to think of ourselves as wrights in this sense of the word -- skilled craftsmen working at a creative endeavor.
